Maunsell re-appointed
Brian Maunsell, who will retire as coach of the New Zealand hockey team after the Los Angeles Olympics, has been re-appointed as a national selector until after an international tournament in Melbourne next January. Mr Maunsell has been replaced as convener by Trevor Blake, of Northland, who will be the new national coach. The third selector is Mr Bob Campbell, of Christchurch. The appointments were made at a meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association’s management committee on Monday and the chairman, Dr B. R. Penfold, said the selection panel would be reviewed after the Melbourne tournament. A new appointment is that of Kevin Towns of Auckland as an associate
selector. He will take part in selection discussions but will not have a vote. Other selection appointments made at the meeting were: Hatch Cup (national primary schoolboys’): J. Cahill (Marlborough), B. Rohloff(Wellington), and R. Miller (Southland). North Island minors: R. Howarth (Hutt Valley), K. Rigby (Rotorua). South Island: W. Kitto (South Canterbury), A. Brown (North Otago). Bruce Nimmo of the West Coast has been appointed by the International Hockey Federation to officiate at the Junior World Cup qualifying tournament in Kuala Lumpur in September. The. association has recommended to the I.H.F. that Mr Peter Herrick (Manawatu) be graded as an international umpire.
