Axeman amiss

PA Auckland The tough racetrack competitor, Axeman, will almost certainly be missing from spring racing, his connections said yesterday. His trainer and partowner, Kevin Griffin, said Axeman jarred himself on hard summer tracks and his galloping action since has been restrained. “It’s not much,” said Mr Griffin, “but enough to keep him out of work. He has a bit of a leg.” At this time last year Axeman was stunning Brisbane crowds. He won the rich Rothmans 100,000 and was an unlucky second, under topweight, in the Doonben Cup. He was also nominated last year for the Japan Cup after excellent form in New Zealand. He has not raced since February.
