Company anxious to replace boat
PA Dunedin The recent loss of the fishing boat Hawea is costing Skeggs Foods, Ltd, in Nelson to two days production each week. The company’s managing director in Dunedin, Mr C. G. Skeggs, said the National Government last week rejected an application for an import licence to buy another vessel overseas. “The Government felt we could build it in New Zea-
land,” Mr Skeggs said. “But with the cost structure the way it is, this would be totally uneconomic.” He hoped the new Government would reconsider this decision. The company can make no move until an import licence is procured and in the meantime the lack of the $1.5 million Hawea is creating “real problems” with production at Nelson.
