A keenly awaited debut at Washdyke
J. J. BOYLE
Racing at Washdyke tomorrow wiH introduce a petite newcomer to the ranks of South Island race riders.
After many months of preparation under the watchful eye of her grandfather, Ned Thistoll, young Jackie Jamieson will try for a personal winning debut on Sea Money in the Owners and Trainers 1200, first leg of the South Canterbury Hunt Club's T.A.B. treble tomorrow.
Sea Money will be resuming after a freshener for the Garth Jackson stable, and if looks count for anything the Beautfort Sea gelding is ready for a big run. On the score of keenness he will be matched by Jackie Jamieson, who is rearing to go after many • months gaining experience on the training tracks, experience widened by a working holiday in the famous Jillings stable at Takanini early in the season.
Sea Money’s stablemate, In the Glen, yesterday wound up for tomorrow’s DB Claremonth Handicap with a solo 1000 m gallop on the No. 1 grass, which had been firmed by frost but was soft in patches. Ridden by her race rider, Grant Davison, In the Glen ran in from the 800 m in 50.4 s and from the 600 m in 38s.
Earlier, when trialists had firmer footing, Steel King and Lanson sprinted 800 m in 51.25. They are form runners for the Harris stable at Washdyke.
The Thistoll-trained Dreamville and Aqua Flight returned 51.2 s in solo gallops. Pronto King, which will meet Dreamville in the Brabazon Handicap next week, ran up easily to lead Reckon So by a length and a half finishing 800 m in 50.45, the last 600 m in 36.85.
Pronto King has thrived since his win at Ashburton and could capitalise on
some rewarding chances over the, Riccarton winter carnival. Jendra, another Brabazon Handicap entrant, sprinted 1200 m in Imin 19.65, the last 600 m in 38.25. A check in the running cost her any chance she might have had when she made a fresh start at Waimate last week. Butternut and Run for the Roses reeled off 800 m in 49.45, the last 600 m in 36.85. Godfree, a stablemate of Run for the Roses, ran his 800 m in 51s, and Fijian Call and Kelly’s Mist did well to come up with 495. Bridoon followed with a 1 solid 50s, and The Kid finished in 52.85. Auk Princess and Mighty Million were up to speed slowly after starting near the 800 m, but hurried in from the 600 m in 365. They will both run for the Michael Pitman stable in the Waybrooke Handicap at Washdyke.
