Bridge Player fit for cup

Special correspondent Woodville Bridge Player, a candidate for the $25,000 Taumarunui Cup tomorrow, worked in good style at Woodville yesterday morning. There was a good frost, but the course proper was still cutting out and times were not very fast. Gallops were held well in on the track. Bridge Player looked fit when he ran 1200 m in Imin 21.95, the last 600 in 40s. He ran well for second over 1400 m at Trentham last Saturday, and that race should have sharpened him up for Te Awamutu, where he will be ridden by Lance O’Sullivan. The Manawatu Hunt Cup

chance, Tarawera, worked with Ego over 1400 in Imin 38s, the last 600 in 42.45. Second in the race last year, Tarawera has the same weight this time and should be hard to beat tomorrow. Ego is a chance in the Tararua Plate. Kerykeion gave Leather Boy a start, but was soon on terms and they ran 1000 m in Imin 8.75, the last 600 in 41.15. Kerykeion was in good form at Awapuni last month and should show up again in the Carnarvon Handicap. A stablemate, Ballihu, a form runner in the Winter Cup Trial, ran 1200 m in Imin 24.75, the last 600 in 43.55. She is fit, but no rider has been confirmed for her.
