Island ship again delayed

Chatham Islanders will now have to wait until at least Monday for muchneeded food and petrol after the islands’ trader Holmdale was delayed from sailing yesterday because of a mechanical problem. The vessel sailed from Lyttelton at 8 a.m. yesterday but anchored off Camp Bay when a fault was discovered with her windlass anchor winch. The Holmdale returned to port at 10.45 a.m.

Staff of the Lyttelton engineering firm, Sinclair Melbourne, Ltd, worked on the problem. yesterday and the vessel is due to sail at 8 a.m. today. Islanders have had to ration food and petrol because of the delayed departure of the vessel, caused by additional work being required on her after her biannual survey. The earliest the vessel will arrive at the Chathams will be Monday.
