Kabul shoot-out rumoured
NZPA-AFPlslamabad, Pakistan The Afghan Defence Minister, Major-General Abdul Qader, had shot and wounded his Cabinet colleague, Aslam Watanjar, Western diplomats in Islamabad said yesterday. The diplomats said that the Communications Minister, Mr Watanjar, associated with General Qader in toppling the President, Sardar Mohammed Daoud in the April, 1978, coup that brought Nur Muhammad Tarakki to power, was shot after reports that the Defence Ministry was being handed to his deputy, Muhammad Nabi Azeemi. The sources did not give details of the alleged shootout.
Diplomats also reported that the Afghan Finance Minister, Abdul Wakil, may have been killed. Muhammad Kabir was last week named Finance Minister, giving credence to rumours that Mr Wakil had beedlbssassinated, the diplomatet said.
