D.S.I.R. change

Parliamentary reporter The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research’s Christchurch division has been renamed the Southern Industrial Development Division. The name change was announced yesterday by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Shearer, to reflect the division’s wider role in providing services

throughout the South Island and not only to Christchurch. Dr Shearer referred to projects on the West Coast, Dunedin, and Invercargill, in which the Christchurch division was involved. The division won the primary production section of the 1984 steel awards earlier this month.
