Cheap air fares sold in a day
PA Auckland A $599 one-way air fare from Auckland to San Francisco recently offered by Continental Airline was sold out one day after it was announced. The airline was given approval by the Minister of Transport, Mr Gair, to sell 30 seats a week at this price through July and August. The low fare was to mark the inauguration of an
Auckland-San Francisco service. Until now all Continental flights have gone to Los Angeles, via Honolulu. The cheapest Ministry of Transport-approved regular fare on this route is $ll2O. Continental’s New Zealand manager, Mr Bill Clague, said that though the fares were sold out more than a week ago, the airline was still being inundated by callers trying to buy tickets.
