Man hit by thief in car-park

The Christchurch police believe a man was assaulted by someone caught breaking into his car in Riccarton yesterday. The man, aged 41, was found by work colleagues, lying in the Clarence Street car-park of the Canterbury Seed Company at 6.50 p.m. He was taken to Christchurch Hospital for treatment for head injuries. The injuries were not thought to be serious but he was kept in hospital overnight for observation.

A police spokesman said last evening that details of the incident were not clear. Witnesses were sought by the police.

The man’s name was not available last evening.
