G.P.s labelled a ‘gutless lot’

PA Hamilton The chairman of the General Practitioners’ Society, Dr Roger Ridley-Smith, has labelled his fellow G.P.s a “gutless lot.” In the June issue of “G.P.,” the society’s journal, he said the recent row over

doctors’ fees revealed the low view that doctors had of themselves. “You don’t seem to think you are worth very much, and it shows up in what you charge. In fact, you are a gutless lot,” Dr RidleySmith said. He described the fee wrangle as the worst medico-political row he could remember, and said it came about because G.P.s were not prepared for the lifting of the price freeze. Dr Ridley-Smith told G.P.s that they should pull themselves together and stop saying they were not as smart as the politicians.
