Form at Rangiora a Blenheim guide

Bold runs at Rangiora on June 9 could be a better guide than form from Nelson when the Marlborough Trotting Club opens its winter meeting at Waterlea Park today.

Givanna, a member of Colin Newton’s team, made an impressive race debut when she finished third to the seasoned horses, Roman Guy and Springfield Command at Rangiora. The three-year-old daughter of Armbro Del should make a bold showing in the Hydroslide Handicap today. Lowcliffe, the lone backmarker, won well at Nelson and she should still be improving. He is a son of Boyden Hanover and is only three.

Wave Length, Ripper’s Fury and W’orthy Bird appeal most of the others. Springfield Command, which has had a win and two seconds from his last three starts, looks a strong form runner in the E. M. O’Malley Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. treble. Springfield Command did well to beat all but Roman Guy at Rangiora and will encounter opposition which is little if any stronger at Waterlea. Johnny Courtell and Armbro Almont could be the hardest for him to beat, although big runs are likely from Supernatural, Fancy That, Hardcase Poplar and Tarex. Travel Warrant was an-

other to catcb the eye at Rangiora. He is in the E. J. Wilson Memorial Pace, the final leg of the T.A.B. treble. Travel Warrant was handy for much of a 2900 m race at Rangiora, but lost his position at a vital time. Finally he came strongly for second, even though it was a rather distant one behind Dillon Skipper. This time Travel Warrant comes back to one mile. Re has drawn rather wide but is the type to make a big showing. Prime Minister, an overdue winner earlier in the month at Ashburton, Kimbell Prince, Rokby, Bogart Girl and Rum Jungle could be as good as any of the others.
