Change of plea in rape case

PA Dunedin A Dunedin man accused of raping and threatening to kill a girl, aged 16, has changed his plea to guilty on the third day of his trial in the High Court at Dunedin.

Donald James Eade, aged 33, was remanded by Mr Justice Roper in custody to June 27 for sentence on his conviction on two charges of rape, two of indecently assaulting the girl, and one of threatening to kill her. After the jury had been discharged, the charges, relating to incidents on January 13 last, were put again to Eade and he pleaded guilty to all five counts. The change of plea came after evidence by a psychiatrist, who had been called on Eade’s behalf.
