STD mix-up on charges

PA Rotorua A Post Office official in Rotorua has admitted that some telephone subscribers have been incorrectly charged for STD calls to which there was no reply.

A Post Office spokesman in Auckland also said that a charge of $2.40 for no-reply calls to Britain had also been incorrectly made. An

Auckland woman said she had been charged a total of $24 for 10 calls to Britain, none of which had had a reply. The Director of Telecommunications Services, Mr N. S. Robertson, said noresponse calls should not be charged or recorded. “If a subscriber suspects that this is happening the matter should be reported

to the Post Office so that the reason for the call being incorrectly recorded and charged can be determined,” he said.

“We want people to tell us about this if it happens.”

However, any claims for a refund for incorrectly charged calls must be made within 14 days of the telephone account’s being received by the subscriber.
