Shoe shop burglar imprisoned

Six months imprisonment was imposed by Judge Pain in the District Court yesterday on an unemployed man for the burglary of a shoe shop in the Linwood Avenue shopping area about 4 a.m. on February 17. The defendant, Laurence Minhinnick, aged 25, had been found guilty by a jury, at his trial last week, of a charge of breaking into the shop of Feet First Linwood Shoes, Limited. He had denied the offence. His counsel (Miss E. H. B. Thompson) submitted yesterday that the defendant still maintained his innocence. She sought a suspended sentence. Mr D. J. L. Saunders, for the Crown, submitted that a custodial sentence was warranted. The offence had been detected only by the, vigilanjge a security guard.
