THC profit record
The Tourist Hotel Corporation showed a pre-tax profit of $l.B million, before extraordinary items, in its latest year, the highest profit in the corporaton’s 27 years.
The chairman, Mr J. E. McClean, said that the corporation had correctly predicted an increase in overseas visitors, and had made a development programme to bring its hotels up to international standards. “Our total room sales rose 11 per cent, and in the holiday season many of our
hotels had 100 per cent occupancy.” THC’s general manager, Mr Mike Hoy, said that the planning for more rooms, a bigger conference centre, and a new restaurant at the THC Waitangi was in the final stages.
Preliminary planning had also started for a new accommodation wing at the Hermitage, Mount Cook.
Special facilities would be provided at THC Wanaka for the increasing number of skiers staying at the hotel.
