Beer on tap again as strike ends

PA Auckland Tankers on Wednesday began replenishing stocks of draught beer at hotels which ran dry during a three-week strike at Dominion Breweries’ Otahuhu brewery. D.B.’s northern region general manager, Mr Kerry O’Neill, said it was hoped that deliveries would be made to all outlets by the week-end.

The Otahunu plant supplies stocks north of Turangi. Normal work resumed on Wednesday after the lifting of a ban that workers had imposed on bulk carbon dioxide being allowed on the site.

A compulsory conference before an industrial conciliator, Mr John Bufton, was adjourned on Monday until the ban was lifted. The conference is expected to resume next week. After a return to work by 40 labourers on a McConnell Dowell water treatment subcontract at New Zealand Steel’s Mill expansion at Glenbrook, a dispute over an elleged assault was also to go before a councilatdj|'at

Auckland yesterday. Elsewhere in Auckland, Stores Union members are involved in several disputes with employers. Workers employed by Donaghy’s Industries at the Auckland cordage warehouse are striking in support of a container-handling payment. A Donaghy’s spokesman said the payment claimed was an increase which, if allowed, would breach the

wage freeze. The union would not consent to have the argument settled under disputes procedures. As a result of the stoppage, 70 process workers not involved in the dispute were suspended. Seventy Stores Union

members at Daily Freighways’ Penrose terminal have stopped work because some have no winter jackets for outside work. More jackets were ordered, the company said. Eight stores workers employed by Super Liquorman in Ponsonby Road continue their strike against the wage freeze. They have been out since April 24 in suppport of the right to bargin.
