Graffiti scares trade union

PA Wellington Graffiti on the toilet walls of the West Coast (North Island) branch of the Meat Workers’ Union referring to the Wellington Trades Hall bomb blast victim, Mr Ernest Abbott, has made the union’s staff “very nervous.” The union’s secretary, Mr

Ken Finlay, said he returned from a work trip to Christchurch yesterday to find signs that the office might have been broken into, but what disturbed him most was finding graffiti on the toilet wall referring to Mr Abbott. The graffiti contained

spelling errors and was written in red felt pen. Mr Finlay believed his office had been broken into because there were fresh fingermarks in the dust on the louvres and one was loose. The loose louvre fell out and broke on the floor when he closed the door.

The toilet is pot part of the union’s main office and is entered through another door.

Mr Finlay said he and his staff were “very nervous” after the discoveries.

Nothing appeared to have been taken from the office. The police are investigating.
