Wool strong at Napier
PA Napier A strong tone showed at the Napier wool sale yesterday. Competition was widely spread and bidding keen. Main competition came from New Zealand carpet mills.
The offering of 28,182 bales was 80 per cent second-shear wool of good colour for the time of year. A few lots showed water discolouration and were discounted accordingly. The market for B grade and B/C grade second-shear was to 3 per cent dearer, clothing oddments were fully firm to 2.5 per cent dearer, and full fleece was to 2.5 per cent dearer. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 293.78 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 8.9 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight on Wednesday to midnight last night.
