Move on quotas supported
Parliamentary reporter The Minister for the Environment, Dr Shearer, agreed with Greenpeace that the New Zealand delegation to the International Whaling Commission meeting in Buenos Aires should maintain New Zealand’s strong stand on the protection of whales.
This meeting was the last the commission would hold before the five-year moratorium came into force next year. New Zealand would hold its traditional line of voting for the lowest possible quotas consistent with sound scientific advice, Dr Shearer said.
