SATURDAY Auckland SHARVID BYRD (Race 10) B g, 4 yrs, by Bolton ByrdPretty Johanne, trained at Papakura by W. Slater. Finished powerfully for good second to Charlie Farlea on this course last week. Drawn awkwardly, but has the ability, to overcome this.
Bay of Plenty CUMBERLAND (Race 9) Br g, 3 yrs, by Riverton-Sweet Leilani, trained at Awapuni by A. S. and Miss V. S. Kaye. In solid form and worked well during the week. Looks the one to beat Hawke’s Bay CROWN STAR (Race 4) Br g, 5 yrs, Crown Lease-Quasar, trained at Cambridge by K. and Mrs A. Browne. Won maiden hurdles at Pukekohe late last month and scored again impressively at Awapuni last Saturday. Marlborough GIVANNA (Race 2) Bf, 3 yrs, by Armbro Del-Lyn Abbe, trained at Prebbleton by C. A. Newton. Made an impressive race debut at Rangiora when third to Roman Guy and Springfield Command. She will have to improve little to be the hardest to beat.
