Selwyn nomination

Sir,—The unfortunate omission of one word in your front-page article on Parliamentary nominations (June 20) gives the quite erroneous impression that the Selwyn Labour candidate, Charles Manning, had difficulty in obtaining nomination for his candidature. The missing word is “form” and it was this piece of paper — the nomination form — which was difficult to obtain, as Social Credit candidates also found. I can assure your readers that once the elusive form was provided for Selwyn, 10 signatures nominating Mr Manning were obtained within minutes, notwithstanding that only two signatures are needed as a minimum legal requirement — a fact no doubt appreciated by Mr John Kirk. — Yours, etc.,

R. L. PLUCK. June 20, 1984.
