Tourism incentive pledge
National has promised that incentives applying in the tourist industry will be continued. The Minister of Tourism, Mr Talbot, said the Government’s contribution towards promotion in specific markets would be increased by up to ?2 million in 198485.
This would be subject to an agreement being reached within the tourism industry, and between the industry and the Government on the methods to be adopted for joint funding. Implementing this proposal would mean a new fund with a budget of ?4 million he said.
With the industry and private sector taking up this money, the specific overseas market promotion budget would rise to more than $lO million.
