Robbie Hill, the English striker likely to step into the shoes of the recentlydeparted Andy Harrison, trains at Spreydon Domain last evening in preparation for Christchurch Brother United’s Rothmans Soccer League match in Napier next Sunday. A Londoner, Hill arrived in Christchurch yesterday having spent most of the

just completed English season with the Isthmian League premier division team, Leytonstone. His goal-scoring rate with Leytonstone — 14 goals in 21 games — is a more than impressive achievement in a testing competition. If he continues to find the back of the net with the same regularity for United, its coach, Laurie Blyth, will be more

than happy. Last year, Hill, aged 22, was the player of the year for Hornchurch, another Isthmian league club, scoring a shade under half the team’s 51 goals.

Hill, who was born in Forest Gate, in the East End of London, played in the same Leytonstone team as United’s present goalkeeper, Steve Baker. Just

before the end of the English season, he joined the first division Isthmian club, Aveley.

With Harrison gone, Allan Boath leaving United for University Cowan, and Steve Wooddin suffering a shoulder injury and likely to miss at least this weekend’s match, Hill’s arrival is timely for United.
