S.A.N.A. policy
Sir,—lt was most Unfortunate that the item (June 18) on the forthcoming inaugural Christchurch meeting of S.A.N.A. (Scientists Against Nuclear Arms) was headlined as “N-arms protest planned.” "Protest” implied a style of action which is likely to mislead “The Press” readers. While S.A.N.A.’s primary aim is to halt and reverse the nuclear arms race, it does not hold demonstrations or support political parties. S.A.N.A. is not aligned, co-ordinates with other scientific groups, publishes fact sheets and other material on nuclear weapons systems, disarma-
ment proposals, and likely consequences of nuclear war. The prospect of a nuclear holocaust is inevitably, and understandably, an emotional issue. S.A.N.A. recognises the great importance, therefore, of providing accurate information on this complex issue. Without such information the likelihood of world peace is dim indeed.—Yours, etc.,
Dr WREN GREEN, S.A.N.A., Christchurch. June 18, 1984.
