Politician dies A former Australian Liberal Party deputy leader, Sir Phillip Lynch, died yesterday. He had earlier arrived at a Melbourne hospital. He was 50. — Melbourne. France reluctant Four Iranian officers who hijacked an Iranian Navy Fokker 27 aircraft at the week-end have surrendered to the French police, after authorities reported that France did not want to give them political asylum. The craft was first hijacked from Iran to Bahrain. Since then it stopped in Egypt and Italy, both of which refused to grant asylum. — Nice.
Offices burned Thousands of angry supporters of Zimbabwe’s governing Zimbabwe African National Union — Patriotic Front have set fire to two offices of the opposition Zimbabwe African People’s Union in the city of Gweru. State-run radio reported that the demonstrators also had demanded the arrest of the Opposition Leader, Mr Joshua Nkomo, who leads Z.A.P.U., and accused him of suporting anti-Government rebels active in the area and in south-western Matabeleland. Two other demonstrations had been staged in Shurugwi and Zvishavane, two smaller towns in the Midlands. — Harare.
