New plane for Air N.Z.

PA Auckland The Government would announce “in a week or so” the purchase of a new model of aircraft for Air New Zealand, the Minister of Transport, Mr Gair, said yesterday. Speaking at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Airline Pilots’ Association in Auckland, he said the Government knew the airline wanted a decision as soon as possible on the purchase of a new wide-bodied air-

craft. “As a result of the general improvement in aviation, the position of the (aircraft) manufacturers is improving. Buyers are finding the market is moving away from them,” he told a questioner. With that in mind, Mr Gair said, the Government would make an announcement “in a week or so.”

He declined to say what type or make of aircraft was being considered.
