Hagley drain realignment

Proposals to realign Addington Drain in South Hagley Park to allow the extension of the netball courts have been passed by the operations and services committee of the Christchurch Drainage Board. The committee decided yesterday that it had no objection to the diversion provided the work was charged to the CanterburyNetball Association and had an adequate cross-section and stable banks The work would have to be to the satisfaction of Drainage Board staff. The association would also have to for any timbering

needed to protect the banks during the two years after construction.

In 1982 the Christchurch City Council declined an application to extend the courts. An amended proposal will be put to the council. Taylors Mistake Taylors Mistake ratepayers wish to meet members of the board to discuss rating policies in their area. The committee received a letter from the Taylors Mistake Ratepayers' .Association which sought reassurances for future planning. |

The letter said. "As residents of the most isolated corner of the Christchurch City Council rateable area, we are concerned to learn that we have been paying full drainage rates for services that have obviously not been provided. Unlike the residents further up Scarborough Hill, we are not seeking, nor do we expect. special dispensation.

We do believe that a cursory inspection would clearly demonstrate that the board's obligation to the area has not been fulfilled." the letter said.

The ratepayers said consultations were needed with'

the board during the planning stage of sewerage facilities. A lack of stormwater drains other than a few rudimentary drains built by early residents was a concern. Drainage through gullies and paths had always been a big problem, the letter said.

"Although not strictly the Drainage Board's concern, we would like to bring to your attention the problem of inadequate fire-fighting facilities, especially fire hydrants." it said.

A meeting between the two parties will be arranged. '
