Dudley Moore plays the jealous lover in the comedy of romance and passion, “Unfaithfully Yours,” which will begin at the Cinerama today. The film also stars Nastassia Kinski and Armand (“I, the Jury”) Assante.
A long time favourite of British audiences, Moore first attracted the attention of a large American audience with his hilarious cameo in “Foul Play,” and then attained superstar status with his starring roles in “10” and “Arthur,” the latter film earning Moore an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe Award.
A prolific musician-com-poser who has cut more than 10 jazz albums and wrote the score for “Bedazzled,” his early cult romp
with Peter Cook, Moore has never played a part more suited to his talents than Claude in “Unfaithfully Yours.”
Inspired by Preston Sturges’s 1948 film of the same name, “Unfaithfully Yours” has been transformed by the director, Howard Zieff, from a madcap satire to a more romantic comedy.
In the original film, the jealous conductor envisions three different methods of dealing with his wife’s supposed infidelity while conducting three disparate pieces of music.
In Zieff’s version the conductor fantasises a single method of retaliation that he then flounderingly tries to replicate in real life.
