Greenies versus goldmines

Goldmines and “greenies” are a bad combination for a new mining firm trying to get gold out of the Coromandel. Crusader Minerals says that it is the victim of a test case campaign by environmentalists. The environmentalists say that Crusader is threatening a State park and they suspect the New Zealand company could be a “stalking horse" for the multinational projects. “Close Up” (One, 8.30 tonight) brought both sides to the Coromandel to thrash out the issue. Thousands of New Zealanders are obtaining university degrees by correspondence through Massey University. Some of these adult students have gained their degrees without School Cer-

tificate or University Entrance. On “Close Up” Martyn Bates will report on extramural study at Massey, which has the fastestgrowing university roll in New Zealand. The music that thousands of New Zealanders will hear will be influenced by one man, Franz-Paul Decker, the current principal guest conductor with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
