Leaders detained

NZPA-AFP Chandigarh, India Two senior Sikh leaders, Prakash Singh Badal, former Punjab Chief Minister, and Surjit Singh Barnala, former federal Agriculture Minister, were detained under the National Security Act in Chandigarh yesterday, official sources said.

On Monday, the two Sikh .kali Dal Party leaders had

called on Sikhs all over the world to observe June 17 as “Ardas Day” (prayer day) to protest at the Indian army’s attack on the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar city last week. Mr Badal and Mr Barnala had also called on President Zail Singh, Sikh ministers, members of Parliament and state assemblies and those in high office to resign immediately.
