Minister to visit Sth Korea
PA Wellington The Ministry of Defence confirmed yesterday that the Minister of Defence, Mr Thomson, will visit South Korea later this month.
Mr Thomson and a small party of Defence and Foreign Affairs officials will leave New Zealand on Friday for a week-long tour at the invitation of the Korean Minister of National Defence, Mr Yoon Sung Min. The Ministry of Defence said that Mr Thomson would meet President Chun Doo Hwan. He would also have talks with Government officials, visit the demilitarised zone, and pay tribute to the 41 New Zealand servicemen who were killed in the Korean War. Mr Thomson will lay a wreath at the United Nations Cemetery where 39 of the men are buried, and another at the Commonwealth War Memorial at Kap’yong,
