Impressive win

Christchurch Boys’ High School, led by one of New Zealand’s best schoolboy players, Ben Alexander, showed its strength in the second round of “The Press” teams’ chess competition. Christchurch, the runnerup last year, won five games and drew the other against Burnside, which finished third in 1983 and has an experienced team this year. Papanui, with a surprisingly big win over Mairehau, and Linwood, which also had a clear-cut win over Ashburton A, look the top teams in section one of the B grade, and Aranui and Christchurch C have won both contests in the second section.
