Our N.Z. Bonds

Sir,—Sprinkled with spurious Eatriotism which reminds us how ereft we are of national vision and purpose, it is ironic that O.N.Z. Bonds encourage people to gamble on a rising tide of inflation. In a country tied in knots with legislation and regulation the name is apt: bond — “... not free, anything that binds.” Any 0.N.Z.8. bonanza is simply paying for the seed corn already consumed to postpone the taking of hard decisions. The practice of government has become more than ever an end in itself rather than a means to draw out the collective energies of people to pursue their own interests within the framework of shared values and wider social goals. The rule of law has been finally subverted by the law of rule. — Yours, etc., LYALL LUKEY. June 10, 1984.
