Music contest results

More than 50 groups took part in the Westpac school music contest held in Christchurch at the week-end. In the instrumental section for small groups with three to six players, the Vienna Trio from the Christchurch School of Instrumental Music comprising Justine Cormack, Robyn Cormack and Sarah Watkins, was first. The Christchurch Girls’ High School string orchestra won the section for large

instrumental groups up to 15 players. Burnside High School Chorale won the vocal section. The judges were Elsa Jensen for the instrumental section and Andrew Carter for the vocal section. District contests will be held in 13 centres throughout New Zealand this month, then six instrumental and two vocal groups will be selected for the finals in Wellington on August 11.
