Apprentices suspended
PA Auckland The apprentice jockeys, Glen Anderton, Caroline Coridie and Shane Treweek were suspended at Ellerslie on Saturday for careless riding. After an adjourned inquiry, Anderton, the rider of Sun Shot in the First Ranfurly Handicap on the second day of the meeting, was suspended until June 15 for allowing his mount to crowd El Jay, Bright Plume and Starsun soon after the start. Treweek, the rider of Dan Donnelly in the Fitzroy Handicap on Saturday, was suspended up to and including June 13 for allowing his mount to shift ground near the finish Dan Donnelly was found to have prejudiced the chances of the fourth placegetter, Bold Tierra. Consequently he was relegated from second to fourth and Bold Tierra was promoted from fourth to third. After a further adjourned inquiry Condie, the rider of Betro in the Second Herne Bay Handicap on the first day, was suspended up to and including June 13. The judicial committee found that Betro caused interference to Comptroller approaching the 1000 m. A charge against Greg Childs, the rider of Mighty Louis in the Fay, Richwhite Cornwall, of weighing in at excess weight, was dismissed. Childs weighed in Ikg over, but the judicial committee dismissed the charge after hearing evidence that Mighty Louis had sweated considerably, causing the towel used by Childs to become half a kilogram heavier than his weighout Weight.
