Good news for league half
NZPA-AAP Bundaberg The Great Britain test half, Neil Holding, underwent surgery on Sunday and has oeen cieared of a serious knee injury. But while the news was good, the injury may still keep Holding out of the second rugby league test against Australia in Brisbane on June 26. The 23-year-old, making his test debut for Great Britain, hobbled off during Saturday's torrid first test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It was feared Holding had seriously damaged a knee cartilage. However, the Great
Britain coach. Frank Myler. ended speculation that Holding would be sent home when he announced the news soon after the tourists arrived in Bundaberg on Sunday. "There's no cartilage damage. He underwent exploratory surgery at a Sydney hospital today and the news was good." Mr Myler said. "He strained medial knee ligaments and will just have to see how he goes as far as the second test is concerned." Mr Myler, who led Great Britain to victory in their 1970 Ashes battle with Australia, was surprised at reports that Saturday’s first test was
"spiteful and vicious." T'm not one for brawls but there is so much at stake for these young players,” Mr Myler said. "I've seen worse and been involved in much worse. It wasn't really that bad." The Great Britain forward. David Hobbs, was sent from the field just a minute from full-time after the Australian hooker. Greg Conescu. had been flattened by a high tackle. Hobbs was later fined sAustlooo ($1390) and suspended for three tour matches.
