Sir Robert to give lecture
NZPA staff correspondent Sydney The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, will give the annual Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Lecture in Melbourne later this month. The lecture has become something of a feature in Liberal Party politics in Australia. The first three were given by senior party politicians, and the fourth by the British Prime Minister. Mrs Thatcher. The chairman of the Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Lecture Trust, Dr Alan Gregory, said that Sir Robert was the first New Zealander to be asked to give the lecture. “This will be the seventh lecture. We are very pleased Sir Robert has
agreed to come." he said. Last year's lecture was given by the Commonwealth Secretary-General. Sir Sridath Ramphal. Next year the trust hopes an important European human rights campaigner will speak. Sir Robert will arrive on June 21 and fly home the next morning. There are reported to be no plans for him to meet any Australian Government leaders, but he will meet several leading Liberals at the lecture at Mannix College, including the Leader of the Opposition. Mr Andrew Peacock, who will introduce Sir Robert. The Melbourne Chamber of Commerce will be addressed by Sir Robert before his evening lecture.
