No.7 jetty to be redeveloped

Tenders have been called for the demolition of 11 bays of the Lyttelton Harbour Board's No. 7 transit shed as part of its plan to redevelop the No. 7 jetty area. The redevelopment is aimed at increasing the heavy duty cargo assembly area adjacent to the No. 7 wharf at the western end of the inner harbour. The board plans to create more room for cargo handling by moving the existing rail tracks to a position below the bank near Simeon Quay and demolishing 40 per cent of the eastern end of the No. 7 transit shed. The board has also applied to the marine division of the

Ministry of Transport for approval to demolish the lowlevel breastwork adjacent to Fishermen's Wharf and replace it with paving. The board's chief engineer, Mr J. B. Bushell, said the area would be worked in conjunction with the No. 2 store at the rear of the Fishermen’s Wharf. Ramps will be installed in the No. 2 store doorways. Mr Bushell said the board expected the work to be completed by the end of the year. The Union Company’s" vessel Maramar will be calling at the port for about four hours today to uplift cargo for her coastal service. The vessel is seldom seen in Lyttelton as her nor-

mal run takes her to Wellington, Nelson, and Dunedin. ARRIVALS Kuaka (7.30 a.m.), 16,221, Nelson (U.M.S.). Coastal Trader (4 p.m.), 6736, Auckland (S.C.N.Z.).
