Qantas winners named
PA Auckland Warren Berryman, of the “National Business Review,” has been named the Qantas reporter for 1983. The news photographer of the year was Trevor Coppock, of the “Auckland Star,” and the cartoonist was Peter Bromhead, also of the “Star.” A “New Zealand Herald” photographer, Peter Avery, won the award for the best single photograph for his picture of a table tennis player. Stuart Ramson of the “Evening Post” won the Young Press Photographer Award, in which Mr Avery
was also highly commended. The Young Reporter Award went to Yvonne van Dongen, of the “New Zealand Times.” Runner-up in the reporter award was Louise Callan, of the Auckland-based magazines “More” and “Metro.” Her story of a rape trial was adjudged the best story. A “Truth” reporter, David Hellaby, was highly commended for his series into failed companies and administrative shortcomings. Tom Scott, of the “Listener,” was runner-up in the cartoonist award. Runner-up in the photographer award was Ross
Giblin, of the “Evening Post.” lan Macley, also of the “Post." was highly commended. A "New Zealand Herald" photographer. Gerald Shacklock, was runner-up in the Young Press Photographer Award. The editor of the "Age," Melbourne, Mr Creighton Burns, judged the reporter award. The photographer awards were judged by Mr Pat Crowe, pictorial editor of the “Adelaide Advertiser" Mr Alan Moir, a cartoon ist with the "Courier Mad." Brisbane, judged the cartoons.
