Australian politicians visit
Miss Debra Becks is closely watched as she assembles a power board at PDL Industries yesterday. Checking on the assembly of the power board are four members of an Australian Parliamentary delegation who were visiting the company. From left: Messrs Barry Cunningham, John Mountford, Kenneth Aidred and Senator Jaine Haines. The six members of the Parliamentary delegation stopped briefly in Christchurch during a 10-day New Zealand tour. The visit is a biennial exchange and included several trips to agricultural
projects at the Ruakura Animal Research Station, Cambridge Stud, Lincoln College and Penfolds winery. PDL Industries in Christchurch was the only medium-sized manufacturing firm it visited in New Zealand. The secretary to the delegation, Mr R. Wiber, said that the visit also enabled the group to look closely at the workings of closer economic relations. Each member of the delegation also had an individual programme which enabled them to visit projects associated with their Parliamentary portfolios.
