Solidarity film bought
NZPA staff correspondent London ; A British television film based on Tom Stoppard's ’ work about Poland's Solidarity movement was bought . by Polish television after it was shown at Cannes. Channel Four’s two-hour ; drama, “Squaring the Circle," was sold for $2200 ■ after being screened on , British television. It was < sold on the condition that no ; cuts could be made without - the production company's agreement. ; It was viewed in Cannes - by the director general of the State broadcasting system in Poland, Mr Alexander Perczynski. The film, which traces 16 months from the birth of the trade union to its being banned under martial law. cost $2.75 million to make. A television spokesman said: “The honesty and authenticity transcends any political considerations. We are determined to preserve the integrity of Tom Stoppard’s script.”
