$17,000 for jeroboam of wine
NZPA-AAP London A jeroboam of Mouton Rothschild 1929 has been sold at Sotheby’s for £7920 ($17,028) to an anonymous American, the “Guardian” reports. The buyer already has two other jeroboams, which hold the equivalent of six ordinary bottles, of the same vintage. Only eight were made. Sotheby’s say the wine is one of the finest produced in a magnificent year, even greater than the Chateau Latour of which a dozen of the 1928 vintage sold for £2640 ($5676). They came from a Belgian cellar, part of which was bricked up during World War II to prevent pilfering by troops.
