Weighty flight staff grounded

NZPA-AFP Lagos The management of Nigeria Airways has grounded 29 flight crew members for being overweight. It has also introduced three-monthly pregnancy tests for its air hostesses. According to a management circular, the 29 mainly senior staff affected by the move have been given a month to shape up or else ship out of the airline’s employment. The same circular also seeks to forbid the airline’s hostesses from getting pregnant unless they have more than four years service, warning that they risk dismissal or forfeiture of maternity leave. The airline’s public relations manager, Mr Femi Ogunleye, said an average 75 kilograms in weight was assumed for each occupant of an aircraft.
