Plane on fire
NZPA-AFP Bangkok An Air India Boeing 747 made an emergency'landing at Bangkok airport at the week-end after its right engine caught fire. Six passengers were injured, an airline spokesman said yesterday. Several fire tenders were waiting on the runway at Don Muang Airport when the plane made the emergency landing just 10 minutes after taking off for New Delhi. Airport officials said that as the plane landed, it skidded across the runway
sending up sheets of flame. Air Force rescue units and medical officials rushed to the plane when it finally stopped in the middle of the runway. The fire on the outer engine on the right wing was put out immediately while the 293 passengers left the plane through emergency ramps. Five passengers suffered minor bruises, one suffered serious injuries. The spokesman declined to reveal the nationalities of the injured passengers.
