Team-mates now rivals
The fifteen players who gave Canterbury its 25-18 national championship rugby win against Wellington on Saturday will all be back in action at Lancaster Park this afternoon, but playing in different teams. Eight will be representing Town and seven Country in the annual Craw Shield fixture. which suggests the balance of strength is fairly even. However, Country will be keen to avenge 'its 40-6 drubbing last year, after
winning five of the previous eight encounters with one drawn. The game will be especially important for some players who may be on the fringe of Canterbury selection. players who could be needed when as many as eight of the regulars are away in Australia with the All Blacks in early August. The Country wing, James Lloyd, and the Town forwards, Pat O'Gorman and Pat O’Byrne, are three who fall into this category, and there will be much interest.
too, in how Garry Barkle compares with the man who replaced him behind the Canterbury scrum, Bruce Deans.
