North Harbour applies
PA New Plymouth Auckland’s North Harbour Rugby Union will become an affiliate of the New Zealand Rugby Union if a recommendation of national councillors is accepted by a special general meeting this month. The new union, which represents players on Auckland's North Shore, has applied to become an affiliate of the New Zealand union and on Saturday won the acceptance of members of the union council.
At their meeting in New Plymouth, councillors voted to call a special general meeting at Wellington on June 28 at which they would recommend North Harbour be granted membership. The chairman of the council. Mr C. A. Blazey, said the North Harbour Union had provided evidence that they had complied with all the requirements of affiliation. Boundary disputes between the fledgling union and the
powerful Auckland union remained unsolved and Mr Blazey said that these would be discussed at the forthcoming meeting. The Auckland clubs, Massey and Waitemata, are in dispute over where the boundary dividing the Auckland and North: Harbour Unions should run. Mr Blazey acknowledged that these matters would have to be overcome before the membership of the new union was finalised.
