Britain unbeaten
Britain will go into the first rugby league test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground next Saturday with an unbeaten record from its first six tour matches. The tourists completed their test preparation with a 28-18 victory over the New South Wales country champion, Newcastle, at the Newcastle International Sports Centre last Saturday.
Four of Britain's five tries were scored by the backs, Gary Schofield, Ellery Hanley, Garry Clark and Neil Holding. The other went to the late pretour replacement forward, Terry Flanagan, and Mick Burke kicked four goals. Craig Higgins and Gary Martine scored Newcastle’s tries and Neville Elwin kicked five goals.
