No plea on fraud Autobank charge

A man, aged 21, appeared in the District Court yesterday charged in connection with the fraudulent withdrawal of $14,000 from three Christchurch Autobank machines. Clive Neil McClure, unemployed, did not plead to the charge of using another person’s Autobank access card with intent to defraud and obtain financial advantage for himself, or others. The offence is alleged to have taken place in Christchurch on May 13. Judge Rabone remanded McClure in custody to June 6 after the police opposed bail. Sergeant M. P. Caldwell said the offence was committed while McClure was already on bail on other matters. Only $2OOO of the $14,000 allegedly withdrawn from the Autobank machines had been recovered, he said. Counsel, Mr M. J. Knowles, sought bail for McClure, saying that sureties were available. McClure was granted legal aid.
