The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, was unable to stay for the late afternoon session of the Canterbury-Westland division regional conference of the National Party in Nelson on Saturday, but his presence remained. A large sculpture of Sir Robert, made from margarine by the second chef of the Hotel Rutherford, Mr Francis Ericson, dominated the table for the formal dinner. Before he left, Sir Robert and the hotel’s conference manager, Mrs Judi Billens, displayed Mr Ericson’s work.
